Grazing Hills
Alpacas has been in operation since 1992; it was one of the first
two alpaca farms in Idaho. The business grew and prospered under the
enthusiastic management of Joyce Gray (first wife of Eddie,) and she was
instrumental in getting several other local breeders started in the
business. But in 2002, just 2 months after being diagnosed with a brain
tumor, Joyce passed away. The herd was sold down to minimal numbers, and
there was debate about keeping the farm in operation. The perfect
setting was quiet; but by the end of 2003, Eddie Gray and new wife,
Karil, decided to pursue the business wholeheartedly.
We are now in the
process of building a herd of award-winning huacaya alpacas; Grazing
Hills currently boasts 20 animals, some with stellar pedigrees.*
We love to wine and dine future alpaca owners, and with abundant space, we also welcome
the opportunity to board animals for other breeders.
Eddie farmed for many years, carrying on the tradition of his father and
grandfather - Grazing Hills is located on the same property that has
been his life-long home. Karil sold pharmaceuticals and medical services
for most of her career, then mortgages; she appreciates the quiet
lifestyle of raising alpacas.
